Looking for a whimsical project to dress up your tabletop this autumn? It’s simple to create unique accessories from flea market finds and timeworn antiques through the age-old art of découpage. Although the finished result makes this project look as if it would be difficult,
basically if you can cut and paste, you can découpage. Use motifs cut from magazines or wallpaper, or buy paper cutouts at your local craft shop. Anything goes. We glued on a handful of autumn leaves for a project
with seasonal appeal. •

You Will Need:
Wooden tea tray
Plaid’s Mod Podge™
(a one-step découpage glue and top coat)
Small paintbrush
Paper cutouts
Assorted fall leaves
Raffia
Iron
Clear acrylic spray
1. Before you begin: If the leaves are curled, spray them with water and place between two pieces of paper toweling. Iron for a few seconds on a medium setting. To make the tray more water-resistant, you will also need clear acrylic spray.
2. Decide where your cutouts and leaves will go, organizing them in a pleasing pattern. Keep in mind the size of your tray. Apply a coat of Mod Podge to the tray, trying to maintain an even application. Gently place the decorations onto the damp glue. Let dry.
3. After the glue has dried completely, brush on another coat of Mod Podge over the entire surface of the tray. This will seal and protect the leaves and cutouts.
Note: The glue will dry clear.
4. Spray the entire tray with clear acrylic spray and allow it to dry completely. Wrap the handles with raffia, securely tucking in the starting and finishing ends.
