Immediate and inexpensive, paint was the key to making over this old Kentucky mobile home.

"I wake up and don’t even recognize this place,” Mark Steele says with a chuckle, as he surveys his mobile home and the work he and his wife have done therein. “Teri changes everything while I’m asleep.”
Such are the perils of having a labor-and-delivery nurse for a wife. “It’s the midnight-shift thing,” Teri explains with a winsome smile. Mark continues: “We’ve lived here four years and have changed the paint three times. It’s been taupe, mustard and now tan. Whenever the paint is dry, I know it’s time to start all over again.”

Nothing in the dining area gives away the secret that this is a mobile home. Architectural salvage pieces are part of the couple’s fanciful and frugal approach to decorating.

Teri and Mark Steele have added vintage charm to their Catlettsburg, Kentucky, mobile home in innumerable ways. Their living room is one successful example of their belief in using little money and a lot of imagination.

The nostalgia factor is alive and well in the cottage-comfortable family room. Vintage pieces mix with a new sofa and chairs for just the right balance of function and beauty.
