Budget-wise ways to brighten your indoor outlook.

California antiques dealer Jan Bumgarner came home from a holiday in the South of France with a keepsake that has literally colored her life—and the two-story, tile-roofed home she shares with
husband Bill in Santa Cruz. Her souvenir? Sunshine. Golden, warm, flooding every corner of their cliff-side house, it’s the incomparable sunshine of the French countryside...the sunshine celebrated in the paintings of the Impressionists, from Cezanne, who lived and worked in Aix en Provence, to Matisse, Van Gogh and Monet.
Getting the corner on comfort, two loveseats heaped with classic
French Provençal-print pillows wrap around a rattan cocktail table in the family room.
A wall-hung shelf underscores one of the over-scaled paintings Jan enjoys.
Providing a grand welcome, a ‘life-size’ window opens onto the Mediterranean in a painting in the entry hall. Jan found the jug at a salvage yard and had it wired into a lamp. A basket of wicker balls adds texture.
